Iron Covenant is a grand-strategy game about holding a fragile alliance together, and if that sentence quickens your pulse, this may be your game of the year. Its systems form a web of interlocking dependencies, and watching a plan you set in motion twenty turns ago finally pay off is a specific, potent joy.
It is also unapologetically difficult to learn, with in-game guidance that stops well short of enough. The climb is steep. For the right player, though, the view from the top is worth every hour.
