PlayDocker Media Inc. (“PlayDocker”, “we”, “us”) operates playdocker.com. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal information you share with us. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have under Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

1. Who we are

We are an independent gaming publication based in Toronto, ON. For the purposes of PIPEDA, the organisation accountable for your personal information is PlayDocker Media Inc., reachable at the details in the Contact section below. Our Privacy Officer oversees compliance with this policy.

2. Our commitment — the ten PIPEDA principles

We handle personal information in accordance with the ten Fair Information Principles set out in Schedule 1 of PIPEDA:

  • Accountability — we are responsible for the personal information under our control and have appointed a Privacy Officer.
  • Identifying purposes — we identify why we collect information at or before the time of collection.
  • Consent — we obtain your knowledge and consent before collecting, using or disclosing your information, except where the law permits otherwise.
  • Limiting collection — we collect only what is necessary for the purposes identified.
  • Limiting use, disclosure & retention — we use and disclose information only for the purposes for which it was collected, and keep it only as long as necessary.
  • Accuracy — we keep information as accurate, complete and up to date as needed.
  • Safeguards — we protect information with security appropriate to its sensitivity.
  • Openness — we make our privacy practices readily available, as in this document.
  • Individual access — you may ask what information we hold about you and request corrections.
  • Challenging compliance — you may challenge our compliance with these principles through our Privacy Officer.

3. What personal information we collect

We aim to collect as little as possible. Depending on how you use the site, this may include:

  • Contact form data — your name, email address, chosen subject and message content, when you contact us.
  • Newsletter data — your email address, if you subscribe to our weekly newsletter.
  • Technical data — with your consent, anonymised analytics such as pages viewed and general region, used in aggregate only.

We do not ask for payment details, government identifiers, or any sensitive personal information, because our service does not require them.

4. Why we collect it

  • To respond to your enquiries, tips, pitches and corrections.
  • To send our newsletter, where you have opted in.
  • To understand, in aggregate, which articles readers value, so we can improve our coverage.
  • To keep the site secure and functioning.

We rely on your consent to collect and use your information. You give it when you submit a form or opt into the newsletter. Our newsletter is strictly opt-in, consistent with Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL): every newsletter identifies us as the sender and includes a working unsubscribe link, and we keep records of consent. You may withdraw consent at any time by contacting us or unsubscribing.

6. Sharing and disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us operate the site (for example, email delivery or analytics), and only to the extent needed to provide their service. These providers are bound to protect your information and use it solely on our instructions. We may disclose information where required by law or to protect our legal rights. Where a service provider processes data outside Canada, that information may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction.

7. Retention and security

We keep personal information only for as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law, after which it is securely deleted. We protect it with administrative, technical and physical safeguards appropriate to its sensitivity, including encrypted transmission and restricted access. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to notify affected individuals and the regulator of any privacy breach that poses a real risk of significant harm, as required under PIPEDA.

8. Your access and correction rights

You have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, how it is used, and to whom it has been disclosed. You may also ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete. To make a request, contact our Privacy Officer using the details below. We will respond within the timeframes required by PIPEDA, ordinarily within 30 days.

9. Complaints

If you have a concern about how we handle your personal information, please contact our Privacy Officer first so we can try to resolve it. If you are not satisfied, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca or by phone at 1-800-282-1376.
