An inventive tactics game with brilliant positioning ideas and a rough presentation. The core is excellent; the packaging needs another pass.
Skybound Tactics has more good ideas than it quite knows what to do with. Its elevation and positioning systems are genuinely fresh, rewarding players who think two turns ahead, and the mission variety keeps the campaign from ever settling into routine.
The problem is presentation. The interface fights you at every screen and the difficulty lurches without warning. None of it is fatal, but it keeps a very sharp tactics game from becoming a truly great one.
